Big weekend with HS XC runners

This past weekend Chris and I took 6 kids from our high school XC team to Cle Elum (Flying Horseshoe Ranch) for a weekend of perspiration and inspiration! We started the fun with a 5+ mile run, the first and last mile being a steady climb. This was a tough run and gave us a great opportunity to explore the surrounding areas.

The next morning we hit the road for a quick 4 mile run out and back (30 minutes), followed up with a 2 hour hike and capped with another road run of 4 miles in the evening. Through in doing other random competitive games and challenges and we probably totaled close to 17 miles for the day.

Sunday morning we woke up to pancakes, sausage and bacon for breakfast, before we took off to COC's ultimate orienteering race in the Teanaway Valley. This was by far the highlight of the weekend for me as I finally got Chris to race one with me. We did the 10k race which turned out to be more like 10 miles of up and down. We had a pretty clean race despite a brain fart on control 7 (we ran around and around this thing for about 20 minutes). We ended up finishing in a time of 2hrs 8mins, roughly 30 minutes behind the winning team. Pretty typical for the races that I've done, and it always comes down to 1 or 2 controls. Below is a picture of my feet after the race and the stats for the day.

(notice the raunchy blister on the toe)
Ascent = ~1950'
Descent = ~2000'
Total Elevation = ~2950'
MHR = 172
AHR = 151
Distance = ~10 miles
Duration = 2hrs 8mins

Two-a-day!

Yesterday, started with a nice easy 4 mile run with Teva in the morning and finished with a fast 12.5 miles on the mountain bike. I was suprised at how fresh I felt on the mountain bike, due to my training being less than intense in the recent weeks.

Today, I am planning on doing a long road ride ~30-45 miles and then follow it up with a low intensity run in the trails.

Tiff and I ride at Tolt/MacDonald Park

In the midst of roofing, haying and flying Tiff and I found, rather made time, this past Saturday to meet up and do some mountain biking at the Tolt trails. We got started right around 7:30 and started out on the uphill climb to the good stuff. Both of of almost made the complete climb w/o dabbing, maybe next time. After the initial climb we quick hit the singletrack and had a blast riding in and out of trails, up and over bridges. The trails were in phenominal shape and I think that a few have been added or maybe just worked on. When it was all said and done we had ridden 11.5 miles in 1h44m, avgeraging 7mph.
Thanks Tiff for the ride, hopefully we'll be able to hook up for another ride this week.
